Representatives across 12 disease groups make up a council that sets clinical recommendations for oncology care and those decisions are being pushed out in the electronic medical record for decision support at the point of care, said Jeffrey Patton, MD, CEO of OneOncology, and executive chairman of the board of Tennessee Oncology. He spoke with Evidence-Based Oncology™ (EBO) during the 11th Annual Patient-Centered Oncology Care®, held November 9-10, 2022, in Nashville, Tennessee.

EBO: What is the role of disease groups in the OneOncology clinical pathways program? How do member practices of OneOncology work with these clinical pathways day to day?

Patton: At OneOncology, we have a clinical leadership forum called OneCouncil—everything’s “one” with us. OneCouncil is really a senate-based model where we have representatives from each practice make clinical decisions and clinical recommendations. Within that group, we have 12 disease groups, where we have thought leaders or [individuals] interested in specific disease discuss and set our standard of care in those disease groups. And we’re developing a pathway tool with Flatiron Health called Flatiron Assist, where those recommendations are written into the electronic medical record, so you don’t have to go outside of the electronic medical record to get that decision support tool. And it really is decision support at the point of care.
