Approximately 2 in 5 health care workers said they have thought of leaving their job in the past year, with half of those affected by shortages; thousands of unauthorized vapes are streaming into the US despite FDA clampdown; Eli Lilly is catching up in the weight loss market.
Health Workers Affected by Staff Shortages More Likely to Contemplate Quitting
Health care workers and experts are urging hospitals and health facilities to again focus on labor issues, especially staff shortages, before a crisis is reached, according to Morning Consult. Almost 3 in 4 health care workers said the country-wide staff shortage has affected them and their facilities, with 2 in 5 who said it’s had a “major” impact. Workers who have been affected by the shortages were more than 2 times as likely to say they thought of leaving their job in the past year.
Thousands of Unauthorized Disposable Vapes Entering the US
The amount of various electronic cigarette devices sold in the US has almost tripled to over 9000 since 2020, motivated almost exclusively by an influx of unauthorized disposable vapes from China, according to highly controlled sales data, reported The Associated Press. The wave is in stark contrast to regulators’ own amounts that claim the rejection of around 99% of company requests to sell new e-cigarettes and only authorizing some intended for adult smokers. These numbers illustrate the FDA’s inability to contain the vaping market, even after more than 3 years of announcing a restraint on flavors appealing to children.
Ely Lilly Gains Momentum in Weight Loss Market
Eli Lilly is on the heels on Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic and Wegovy with new treatments and presenting results from successful trials at the American Diabetes Association conference, suggesting an impending advantage over the Danish competitor in the competition to supply obesity drugs, according to STAT. So far, Lilly has presented an abundance of promising new medications to over 11000 attendees at the conference. These include an effective obesity pill, use of diabetes treatment Mounjaro in weight loss, and a long-awaited injectable that reduced the most weight observed with any obesity drug.
