NAMCP Spring Managed Care Forum 2013 Conference Re-cap
This week The American Journal of Managed Care editorial staff attended the Spring Managed Care Forum 2013 in Orlando, Florida, presented by the National Association of Managed Care Physicians (NAMCP).
This week The American Journal of Managed Care editorial staff attended the Spring Managed Care Forum 2013 in Orlando, Florida, presented by the National Association of Managed Care Physicians (NAMCP). The event highlighted the solutions, tools, and resources on managing diseases, improving outcomes, and navigating healthcare reform. The two-day event emphasized discussion on a variety of managed care issues including those of the business, health management, and oncology based focus.
Jacques Sokolov, MD, chairman and chief executive officer of SSB Solutions, Inc. a national healthcare management firm, presented the keynote general session on the “Rapidly Changing Payer, Physician, and Hospital Based Product Landscape Realities.”. In his session, Dr. Sokolov said that clinical integrated organizations (CIOs), accountable care organizations (ACOs), and super CIOs are pivotal to the evolution of value-based products. As well, value-based care delivery needs to be addressed, or payers and physicians may fall behind in the changing healthcare market. Other AJMC coverage included Layna Cook at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldewell & Berkowitz, PC, who discussed “The Impact of the Health Reform’s State Exchanges.” In her presentation, Cook says the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will provide a variety of new healthcare plans through state exchanges. As well, these plans will be put through rigorous standards to ensure they offer the best quality options for individuals and employers.
Speakers like Dr Russell Cohen, Pritzker School of Medicine Co-Director, were also present. His presentation “Optimizing Treatment Strategies in the Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)” discussed developing strategies that will optimize medication adherence, and establish treatment goals for patients with IBD. In this video. Dr Cohen suggests that once-a-day dosing ensures patients don't fall behind in taking their prescribed IBD medications.
