Improvement on Medical Errors "Not Enough"
The healthcare industry has made progress in reducing medical errors over the past 15 years, but it's not enough, according to Molly Joel Coye, MD, chief innovation officer of UCLA Health at the University of California, Los Angeles.
The healthcare industry has made progress in reducing medical errors over the past 15 years, but it's not enough, according to Molly Joel Coye, MD, chief innovation officer of UCLA Health at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Coye was a co-author of the Institute of Medicine's watershed report "To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System," released in 1999.
While that report estimated the number of annual preventable errors in hospitals to be 98,000, it did not track errors in ambulatory settings, skilled nursing facilities and elsewhere.
