AMA Moving to Former IBM Building

CHICAGO: The American Medical Association is leaving its longtime headquarters in River North and moving to the former IBM Building a few blocks away.

The 52-story building at 330 N. Wabash Ave. will be renamed AMA Plaza when the physician's trade group moves in 2013, according to a news release from the AMA. The organization, which has been based in a tower at 515 N. State St. since 1990, will lease 275,000 to 300,000 square feet in the high-rise, a landmark high-rise designed by Mies van der Rohe.

“The AMA is an iconic organization, and we're moving to an iconic building, which will provide a great working environment for our employees and the work we do on behalf of America's physicians,” James Madara, AMA's executive vice-president and CEO, said in the news release. “It's been a thorough and exhaustive process, and we feel this decision makes good sense economically and logistically. It will allow us to upgrade our work environment with minimal disruption to our current workflow and our employees' commutes.”
