An article published by Biospace referenced an interview with Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, published in the July 2020 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®). Fauci talked about progress that has been made in the fight against HIV and AIDS and about the parallels in the effort to find a vaccine for both HIV as well as SARS-CoV-2 [severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2], the virus causing the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
A story in The Star Ledger also cited a study published in the July 2020 issue of AJMC® titled, “The Escalation of the Opioid Epidemic Due to COVID-19 and Resulting Lessons About Treatment Alternatives.” In the study, researchers provided insights learned from the worsening opioid epidemic due to coronavirus disease 2019 as well as social distancing recommendations that isolated many patients. Investment is needed in health care resources that would help prevent substance use disorder from starting in the first place, the researchers said.
A piece by HealthPayerIntelligence.com titled “How Employers, Payers Can Partner through the Workplace Transition,” referenced a study published in the July 2020 issue of AJMC®. The study, “Patient Preferences for Provider Choice: A Discrete Choice Experiment,” found that coverage of a personal doctor was positively and significantly associated with plan choice, as was breadth of the provider network. Conversely, wait time, travel time, and premium were negatively and significantly associated with plan choice.
A piece by Forbes called “How Your Company Can Save Money, Boost Performance, And Improve Healthcare For Vulnerable Employees During Covid-19 And Beyond,” cited a study published in the February 2014 issue of AJMC®. The study, “Connecting the Dots: Examining the Link Between Workforce Health and Business Performance,” indicated that organizations can better understand the link between workforce health and business performance by integrating relevant metrics from both human resources and business operations.
