An opinion piece in the Courier Journal cited a study published in the August 2019 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® titled “Passive Social Health Surveillance and Inpatient Readmissions.” In the study, researchers examined the association of inpatient readmissions with self-identified social needs and found that individuals with unmet social needs were 68% more likely to be readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge.
