The National Association of Accountable Care Organizations (NAACOS) released a statement commending CMS for their evaluation of the first year of the Next Generation Accountable Care Organization Model.
The evaluation compared outcomes of over 450,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Next Generation ACOs to a group of beneficiaries who receiving care by non-ACO providers. Results of the evaluation showed that Next Generation ACOs cut costs while maintaining quality of care.
The statement encourages CMS to conduct the same type of evaluation of the Medicare Shared Savings Program, which includes 561 ACOs accounting for 10.5 million Medicare beneficiaries.
