FDASIA Places Emphasis on Patient-Focused Drug Development
July 23rd 2012On July 9, President Obama signed into law the US Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act (FDASIA). The bipartisan legislation is the culmination of more than a year of negotiations and aims to spur the development of lifesaving treatments and therapies for the approximately 30 million Americans who suffer from rare diseases. The act also gives the FDA the authority to collect user fees from industry to fund reviews of innovator drugs, medical devices, generic drugs, and biosimilar biologics.
