Whole-Person Health Care: Integrating Mental and Behavioral Health Into Primary Care

Panelists highlight approaches for integrating behavioral and physical health into a whole-patient model and discuss emerging opportunities for the integration of behavioral mental health in value-based care.

During a 60-minute discussion, the speakers on The American Journal of Managed Care® webinar "Whole-Person Health Care: Integrating Mental and Behavioral Health Into Primary Care" highlighted approaches for integration of behavioral and physical health into a whole-patient model to improve outcomes and discussed emerging opportunities for the integration of behavioral mental health in value-based care.

Stephen P. Melek, FSA, MAAA, principal, consulting actuary, Milliman, moderated the discussion with panelists:

  • Sheri Kirshenbaum, PhD, a clinical director at Quartet, a health care technology and services company on a mission to improve the lives of people with mental health conditions. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in New York and California, with more than 20 years of management experience in the health care field.
  • Brian Klausner, MD, chief medical officer at WakeMed Key Community Care in North Carolina. He directs many of the hospital's population health efforts—advocating for patients and vulnerable populations in the community and driving quality improvement.
  • Von Nguyen, MD, MPH, vice president for Clinical Operations and Innovations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. He develops new collaborations with providers in support of value-based care.
