V-BID Center Joins AJMC for Tweetchat on Moving From Volume to Value
On July 27 at 10 am EDT, The American Journal of Managed Care will host a tweetchat with the University of Michigan Center for Value Based Insurance Design to discuss moving from volume to value in healthcare and changing the cost discussion from "how much" to "how well."
PLAINSBORO, N.J.—With Americans being asked to pay greater portions of their healthcare expenditures, value-based insurance design (V-BID) has emerged as a potential solution by lowing or removing financial barriers to essential, high-value clinical services.
On July 27 at 10 am EDT, The American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) will host a tweetchat with the University of Michigan Center for Value Based Insurance Design (V-BID Center) to discuss moving from volume to value in healthcare and changing the cost discussion from “how much” to “how well.”
V-BID Center Director A. Mark Fendrick, MD, will answer questions from participants and discuss topics including Medicare, high-deductible health plans, and out-of-pocket costs.
“As Americans are asked to pay more for their care, cost-related nonadherence is a real and growing problem for those who are privately insured, as well as those enrolled in the Medicare program,” said Dr Fendrick, professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan. “Clinically nuanced value-based designs should be part of a national strategy to improve access to high-value services, improve the consumer experience, and lower healthcare expenditures.”

Dr Fendrick is also the co-editor-in-chief of AJMC. In January, he and his AJMC co-editor, Michael E. Chernew, PhD, wrote a special guest commentary celebrating the journal’s 20th anniversary and highlighting the first paper on V-BID (referred to then as “benefit-based co-pay”), which was published in 2001.
