A Health Affairs blog post on patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs) cited a study published in the August issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®). The study, “Impact of a Medical Home Model on Costs and Utilization Among Comorbid HIV-Positive Medicaid Patients,” found that there was increased outpatient service utilization, but relative cost savings, for HIV-positive Medicaid patients with medical and behavioral health comorbidities who were treated in PCMH models.

The AJMC® article, “Healthcare Consolidation in California Leading to Higher Prices, Study Finds,” covered a study that concluded that consolidation in California’s healthcare system has had a noticeable impact on measures of vertical integration and premiums for insurance bought through the exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.
The National Pharmaceutical Council’s Wednesday and Thursday CER Daily Newsfeeds included AJMC®’s latest episode of Managed Care Cast, “Going Below the Surface of Healthcare Cost Discussions With Dr Bobby Dubois.” The podcast discussed the Going Below the Surface initiative and its efforts to get to the root of healthcare spending in the United States.
OBR Oncology's Friday newsfeed included AJMC®'s article on side effects from cancer immunotherapy. The article, "Study Discerns Rare Risks of Fatal Side Effects From Cancer Immunotherapy," covered study findings that determined the incidence and timing of rare, fatal side effects from immune checkpoint inhibitors is still extremely low.
Imaging Technology News’ article on lung cancer screening included a study published in the June issue of AJMC®, “Initial Results of a Lung Cancer Screening Demonstration Project: A Local Program Evaluation.” The study reported on results, lessons, and challenges of a local lung cancer screening program within a national demonstration project.
