Global Liver Institute Voices Concern With Proposed Cuts to NIH Funding
In response to the Trump administration's 2020 Fiscal Year Budget Proposal, the Global Liver Institute (GLI) expressed its disappointment with the proposal, specifically with funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
In response to the Trump administration's 2020 Fiscal Year Budget Proposal, the Global Liver Institute (GLI) expressed its disappointment with the proposal, specifically with funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). According to the institute, the proposal to cut funding by more than 21% would undermine recent progress made on research to find treatments and cures for patients with liver disease as the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease alone is expected to increase by 63% by 2030. Liver disease funding currently accounts for 2% of NIH's budget.
GLI, along with 300 other organizations and institutions, has signed a letter to support an increase in the NIH bidget for FY 2020 and voiced its commitment to protect funding of NIH.
