Dr. Niteesh Choudhry Discusses Value-Based Insurance Design [Part 2 of 4]

Article

Dr. Niteesh Choudhry, Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School, Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics in Boston, shares that even when cost was taken out of the picture, more than half of the post-myocardial infarction patients in the study didn’t take their medications.

Dr. Choudhry notes that even though the intervention was designed to be simple, this population of cardiac patients displayed medication adherence issues beyond cost, such as forgetfulness, worry about side effects, and difficulty accessing the medications.
