Ban Non-Medical Exceptions for Vaccination, says AMA
Delegates from the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics have voiced a strong support to banning non-medical exceptions to childhood vaccination, citing a danger to public health.
At the annual meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA), delegates said they strongly oppose exceptions to immunizing children if the reasons are non-medical in nature.
Philosophic and religious reasons for exceptions have been on the rise around the country, and have become easier to obtain, said a delegate from the Council for Science and Public Health. West Virginia and Mississippi currently are the only states that do not allow philosophic or religious exemptions for state immunization needs.
