A study published in The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) was highlighted in an article from Patient Engagement HIT. The study, “Community Pharmacy Automatic Refill Program Improves Adherence to Maintenance Therapy and Reduces Wasted Medication,” found that a national retail pharmacy refill program for patients on medication for chronic disease demonstrated significantly improved patient adherence and reduced medication oversupply.
An article from WAMU 88.5, American University Radio, on how medical schools are changing the way they teach treatment for pain and opioid addiction cited an AJMC® interview with Kelly J. Clark, MD, MBA, from the American Society of Addiction Medicine. During the interview in 2016, Clark explained that prescription drug abuse is an epidemic in the United States and a chronic brain disease but is not treated the way other chronic conditions are.
The National Pharmaceutical Council’s Tuesday CER Daily Newsfeed included AJMC®’s coverage of ISPOR 2019. The article, “Fremanezumab Cost Effective for Both Types of Migraine, Researchers Say,” covered a poster presented at the meeting in which a computer-simulated cost-effectiveness model of fremanezumab for migraine found that it was cost-effective versus no treatment. Wednesday’s newsfeed included an AJMC® interview with Paul Melmeyer, director of Federal Policy, National Organization for Rare Disorders, from the conference. During the interview, Melmeyer discussed how therapies for rare diseases pose unique challenges to value assessment in a variety of ways.
