Sharing EHR data results in $2M in savings across Memphis EDs
Professor of Biomedical Informactics, Mark Frisse, MD has successfully implemented the first study of health information exchange (HIE). The city-wide study based in Memphis, Tenn. Shared electronic health information with every emergency department in the area annually saving $2 million. HIE delivers a more patient centered care allowing providers in different facilities to exchanged electronic medical records.
“Our people believe that the savings from this study are less than 2 percent of the overall savings these technologies can afford if every physician’s office is connected,” said Frisse. “And we are absolutely convinced and committed to extending this approach to every healthcare setting.”
