In general, the disease is extremely expensive to treat, and there may be nearly 100,000 patients who suffer from the disease. Treatment can last for years, which only adds to costs.
Risk factors are also analyzed by the panel. Dr Kumar notes that some studies have shown African Americans and people who are obese may be at increased risk for developing the disease.
