Push to Expand Medicaid to Begin Again in Virginia
Although Virginia Gov Terry McAuliffe failed to pass a Medicaid expansion plan during his first year in office, the governor's health secretary has indicated that the fight will begin again.
The push for Medicaid expansion in Virginia is being renewed this week. Although Gov Terry McAuliffe failed during his first year in office to successfully pass a plan that would extend Medicaid to 400,000 uninsured Virginians, the governor's health secretary has indicated that the fight for Medicaid expansion is back on the table again, according to the Washington Post.
Gov McAuliffe is expected to present his plan Wednesday morning. According to the proposal, the program would save $100 million in 2016 and that money would be set aside for future use and would not be used by the state to close its $322 million shortfall.
While Virginia House Republicans are strongly opposed to expanding Medicaid, the governor is winning points with some liberals by refusing to give up the fight, the Post reports.
