NYU School of Medicine Develops AI Tool That Diagnoses PTSD Through Voice Analysis
Researchers from the NYU School of Medicine have developed a specially designed computer program that can help diagnose post-traumatic (PTSD) in veterans by analyzing their voices.
Researchers from the NYU School of Medicine have developed a specially designed computer program that can help diagnose post-traumatic (PTSD) in veterans by analyzing their voices. In a study published in the journal Depression and Anxiety, findings revealed that the artificial intelligence tool can distinguish, with 89% accuracy, between the voices of those with and without PTSD.
“Our findings suggest that speech-based characteristics can be used to diagnose this disease, and with further refinement and validation, may be employed in the clinic in the near future,” said Charles R. Marmar, MD, Lucius N. Littauer Professor, chair of the Department of Psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine, and senior study author.
