A study published in The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) was cited in a Penn State News article that focused on the opioid epidemic on Wednesday. The study, “State Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs and Fatal Drug Overdoses,” examined the impact of prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) on drug overdose deaths. Results of the study showed that PDMPs were not associated with the reductions in overall drug overdose mortality rate and may be related to increased mortality from illicit drugs and other, unspecified drugs.
The Thursday e-newsletter from National Pharmaceutical Council included 2 articles by AJMC® covering sessions at the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) 2017 Nexus meeting. The articles covered the growth of outcomes-based risk-sharing contracts and the benefits of these agreements, and the new guidance from FDA regarding healthcare economic information prior to a drug’s approval. For more coverage from AMCP Nexus, which was held October 16-19 in Dallas, Texas, visit the dedicated conference page.
