A piece by 3rd Watch News referenced an article published on AJMC.com, the website of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®). The article, “Diabetic Amputations May Be Rising in the United States,” highlights that lower-limb amputations may be rising in the United States after decades of decline, with approximately 230 reported amputations attributed to diabetes in the United States.
An article by Health Payer Intelligence cited a study published in the June 2020 issue of AJMC®, titled “Value-Based Insurance Design in Louisiana: Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Zero Dollar Co-pay Program.” The study indicated that enrollment in a value-based insurance design program that eliminated pharmacy co-pays for 4 chronic disease drug classes was associated with a large decline in health care spending.
Medical Xpress’ article, “Effect of high-deductible insurance use in bipolar disorder,” referenced a study published in the June 2020 issue of AJMC®. The study, “Effect of High-Deductible Insurance on Health Care Use in Bipolar Disorder,” found that high-deductible health plan members with bipolar disorder experienced a reduction in nonpsychiatrist mental health provider visits but no changes in other utilization.
MedCity News mentioned a study published in the March 2019 issue of AJMC®’s sister journal, Evidence-Based Diabetes Management™. The study, “A New Era: Increasing Continuous Glucose Monitoring Use in Type 2 Diabetes,” found that continuous glucose monitors are increasingly accessible and effective for patients with type 2 diabetes, and even those with prediabetes, as a means for real-time biofeedback and behavior change.
