Expanding Support for Independent Primary Care Practices in Massachusetts

Podcast

On this episode of Managed Care Cast, we speak with the senior vice president of Network Payment Innovation and Contract Management for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, which is launching a new value-based payment approach for independent primary care practices. The pilot project will reward practices for keeping patients healthy while providing extra support during the pandemic.

A new value-based payment approach for independent primary care practices is launching in Massachusetts, with the aim of keeping patients healthier while also reducing costs. In addition, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts program will provide a steady revenue stream for practices to care for patients even if office visits drop, as has been the case during the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides involving a patient-based payment model, there are incentives for efficiency and quality performance and immediate support payments for practices that join.

On this episode of Managed Care Cast, we speak with Matthew Day, senior vice president of Network Payment Innovation and Contract Management for Blue Cross, who is responsible for the overall design, implementation, and management of our company’s provider contracting strategy.
