Evidence-Based Tack Drives HF Guidelines

An update to guidelines for managing heart failure emphasizes evidence-based therapy, according to the document from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association.

In particular, the authors introduced a new designation for optimal treatment called guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT).

"This important 'call-out' of GDMT should be especially helpful for primary care physicians and physician extenders involved in the care of patients with heart failure," noted writing committee chair Clyde Yancy, MD, chief of cardiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, in a statement.
