Episode 23 - The Affordable Care Act and Healthcare Reform

Video

During this segment, David Calabrese, RPh, MHP, Kenneth L. Schaecher, MD, FACP, CPC, and Yehuda Handelsman, MD, FACP, FACE, FNLA, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of transitioning into a new model of patient care as set forth by healthcare reform and the Affordable Care Act.

Because he believes that this transition allows healthcare professionals the opportunity to take advantage of new information technology, increase coordination and communication with colleagues, and focus on prevention and wellness programs that are vital to the management of cardiometabolic conditions, Mr Calabrese explains that healthcare professionals need to embrace the goals set forth by healthcare reform.

Despite its advantages, as discussed by Mr Calabrese, Dr Schaecher and Dr Handelsman explain that certain factors may continue to affect a clinician’s treatment recommendations and impede the opportunity to deliver optimal care to patients.
