Time-restricted eating and other fasting weight loss methods can help improve metabolic outcomes, said Marc-Andre Cornier, MD, endocrinologist, professor, and director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases at the Medical University of South Carolina.

What are you looking forward to regarding the future of research on weight loss and diabetes?

I think that's a hot area of, you know, is it more important when you eat or is it more important what you eat and how much you eat? It's probably a combination of all those things.

But there's a growing repository of studies looking at time-restricted eating, alternate-day fasting, [and] intermittent fasting. These terms are not interchangeable. These are different things. But these offer patients another option and and are potentially important also for metabolic outcomes, as well.
