She believes that promoting outcomes based healthcare and research to support it have been influential in the development of value-based purchasing and alternative payment models, tools that have been shown important in reducing costs of care and improving value.
“That’s the gold standard now for quality metrics in part because of the early strength of manage care and understanding that in order to really manage, you have to have information about the population you’re caring for as well as about the performance of the providers,” Dr Cassel said.
