Dennis Scanlon, PhD, professor of health policy and administration at Penn State University, says there are a number of ways professionals continue to use data to improve delivery outcomes. He suggests that the industry has made significant progress with its use over the past 15 to 20 years.

“What I don’t think we’ve done, particularly in an area like oncology, is merge these various data sources,” he says. “I think we’re going to see more and more merging of clinical information along with patient preference information.”

Proper use of data can increase patient engagement and improve outcomes or episodes of care.
