Cost Control Incentives for Doctors, Hospitals Don't Affect Patient Outcomes when Quality Variables Are Implemented

Findings from a 4-year study suggest that pay for performance (P4P) incentive programs help reduce costs without impacting complications and death rates from major surgeries when quality care variables are implemented.

The researchers, formed from a group of hospitals in New York City, presented their findings at the 2011 Annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons.
