Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr, Explains the Beginnings of the 21st Century Cures Act

Video

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr, discusses the origin of the 21st Century Cures Act and the work of the Energy and Commerce Committee to get discussion going about the bill.

The 21st Century Cures Act originated from a small idea in House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton’s mind that took work from both parties to see success, explained Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr, (D-NJ).

He added that with jurisdiction over healthcare and drug approvals, a health sub committee under the Energy and Commerce Committee traveled the country to arrange hearings and forums to begin discussion of the bill and allow others to join in on the conversation.

“[Chairman Upton and Ranking Member Diana DeGette] felt that, collectively, more needed to be done to cure diseases where we haven’t really made much progress,” Mr Pallone said.
