CMS Demonstration Saves $25 Million While Increasing Quality of Care
The first year of CMS' Independence at Home Demonstration led to both higher quality care and and saved $25 million, an average of $3070 per participating beneficiary.
The first year of CMS' Independence at Home Demonstration led to both higher quality care and and saved $25 million, an average of $3070 per participating beneficiary.
All 17 partipating practices improved quality in at least 3 of the 6 quality measure with 4 practies meeting all 6 measures. Overall, 9 practices met quality measures and successfully reduced Medicare expenditures and will receive incentive payments of $11.7 million.
"These results support what most Americans already want-- that chronically ill patients can be better taken care of in their own homes. This is a great common sense way for Medicare beneficiaries to get better quality care with smarter spending from Medicare," said CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt. "The Independence at Home Demonstration is one of the tools of the Affordable Care Act that can bring down the long-term cost of care in a patient-centered manner."
