Sachin Jain, MD, MBA, has been named as successor to lead CareMore Health System when President Leeba Lessin retires on April 15. Dr Jain is an editorial board member of The American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) and current chief medical officer of CareMore. He joined the company in 2015 and his role includes operating responsibility for market performance.
CareMore is a Medicare Advantage insurance plan originating in southern California. It provides care for frail, elderly patients and has developed an integrated patient care delivery system designed to surround patients with care.
“I am honored to be selected to lead CareMore and through my leadership the company will maintain its commitment to innovation, serving the needs of consumers and being a forerunner in value-based health care delivery,” Dr Jain said in a statement.
During his tenure with CareMore, Dr Jain has focused on improving clinical operations, advancing the performance of the clinical and operating teams, and re-invigorating clinical innovation.
Dr Jain was previously chief medical information and innovation officer at Merck, Inc, a lecturer in healthcare policy at Harvard Medical School, an attending physician at the Boston VA Medical Center, special assistant to the national coordinator for health information technology, a senior advisor to CMS, and a member of the faculty at Harvard Business School.
“When I was in public service, I learned of CareMore’s reputation for excellence,” he added. “That’s a tribute to Leeba and her tireless energy and enthusiasm. On behalf of CareMore’s associates, I wish to thank Leeba for her tremendous leadership and mentorship and I look forward to building on her legacy into the future.”
Lessin will remain with the company as a consultant and an instructor for the CareMore Academy.
“I am so proud to have led CareMore during a transformative period when we expanded our model outside of California and then outside of Medicare,” Lessin said in a statement. “It’s been very gratifying to participate in creating a model that has been replicated across the country and has proven effective in improving the lives of so many. In addition, I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with a visionary and committed team who strive to be CareMore 100 percent of the time.”
AJMC conducted a Q&A with Dr Jain in 2015, shortly after he joined CareMore. Read the article here.
