Having practiced value-based care for several years, what are some of the biggest lessons learned?
The biggest lessons that we’ve learned is really, I think, how phenomenal the impact is on patient care as much anything. I think when we started this 4 years ago, the first shared-savings contract that we had was a Cigna contract, and I think the additional, really, customer service, and exceptional touch we have with our patients has been probably the biggest thing that we’ve learned.
The fact that we can do a lot of training with our patients outside of the clinic has a tremendous impact, I think they understand what they’re going through to a much greater extent. We do a lot more education with nutrition, we assesses, I think, more closely their mental status and just in general have the opportunity to communicate with the patient in a way that is difficult to do when you’re trying to take care of multiple patients at the site level.
