Annual Report on the Status of Cancer in the United States Released
The Annual Report to the Nation on Status of Cancer, product of a collaboration between The American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute, and North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, has been published.
The Annual Report to the Nation on Status of Cancer, the result of a collaboration between The American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute, and North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, has been published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
The study provides population-based cancer trends, with a particular focus on breast cancer incidence. The major findigs of the report include:
- An annual 1.8% decrease in cancer incidence in men from 2007 to 2011
- Stable rates of incidence for women between 1998 to 2011
- An annual 0.8% increase in children from 2005 to the present
- A reducing mortality rate among both men and women since the early 1990’s and among children since the 1970’s.
The report presents a detailed analysis of breast cancer incidence and mortality, and draws a correlation with economic strata and race. Read the report here.
