How did beWellnm have to adjust its enrollment strategy after losing one of the state’s biggest insurers?
That was a big change for year 3: half of the exchange enroll population, through bewellnm.com, lost their health insurance plan. Their insurance plan was discontinued, so they had to find a new plan in order to maintain their coverage.
So 2 things we did with our strategy this year: I went out with the superintendent of insurance and we did a roadshow across the state. We spent most of the month of October meeting with consumers, and agents, and brokers, and talking about this very significant change in the market. So that was one thing that we did. And then we integrated into all of our messaging and our marketing and our outreach efforts the fact that, if you are someone who has a discontinued plan, you need to take action; there’s lots of free assistance available and it was very important that you take action in order to retain your health insurance for 2016.
