An article by MakeUseOf cited a study published in the February 2018 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) titled “Data Breach Locations, Types, and Associated Characteristics Among US Hospitals.” In the study, researchers found that despite the high level of hospital adoption of electronic health records and the federal incentives to do so, the most common type of data breach in hospitals occurred with paper records and films. The MakeUseOf article, which focused on ways to prevent data theft by employees, recommended locking up or shredding paper files based on the findings published in AJMC®.
