A study published in the July 2021 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®), titled “Large Self-insured Employers Lack Power to Effectively Negotiate Hospital Prices,” was cited in articles by Healthcare Dive, Fierce Healthcare, and Becker’s Hospital Review. In the study, authors examined the ability of self-insured employers to negotiate hospital prices, with findings showing low market power of employers in most metropolitan areas.
A piece by Healthcare Finance News referenced a study published online ahead of print for the December 2021 issue of AJMC®. The study, “Availability of Prices for Shoppable Services on Hospital Internet Sites,” indicated that many hospitals are in violation of new federal legislation with only 60% of hospitals displaying their cash prices and 5% displaying their minimum negotiated charges on their public websites. The study was also mentioned by the Santa Monica Daily Press.
