An article by The Washington Post cited a study published ahead of print from the December 2021 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®), titled “Availability of Prices for Shoppable Services on Hospital Internet Sites.” In the study, researchers found that many of the United States’ top hospitals are in violation of new federal legislation as only 60% of them display their cash prices and 5% display their minimum negotiated charges on their public websites.
A piece by The Chronicle spotlighted an article published on AJMC.com, the website of AJMC®. The article, “US Ranks Worst in Maternal Care, Mortality Compared With 10 Other Developed Nations,” addressed study findings that indicated the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate, a relative undersupply of maternity care providers, and no guaranteed access to provider home visits or paid parental leave in the postpartum period, compared with 11 other developed countries. The article was also mentioned by The Daily World.
An article by BenefitsPRO referenced a study published in the July 2021 issue of AJMC®, titled “Large Self-insured Employers Lack Power to Effectively Negotiate Hospital Prices.” In the study, authors examined the ability of self-insured employers to negotiate hospital prices, with findings uncovering a low market power of employers in most metropolitan areas.
