An article on PatientEngagementHIT discussed a study published in the February 2020 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®), noting that it “renews hope for care management [and] coordination effectiveness.” The study, titled “Impact of Complex Care Management on Spending and Utilization for High-Need, High-Cost Medicaid Patients,” found that complex care management for high-need, high-cost Medicaid patients significantly reduced total medical expenditures and inpatient utilization in a randomized quality improvement trial.
A press release from the Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Institute's Department of Population Medicine highlighted another study from the February 2020 issue of AJMC®, “Preventive Drug Lists as Tools for Managing Asthma Medication Costs.” In the study, researchers determined that preventive drug lists show promise, but also challenges, in helping families manage asthma medication costs.
Fredericksburg.com cited a study published in an October 2018 AJMC® supplement, “The Economic Impact of Peanut Allergies.” The study highlighted the prevalence of peanut allergies, which affect an estimated 1.2% of the overall US population and about 2.5% of the pediatric population. The first drug approved by the FDA for treatment of peanut allergy in children, sold as Palforzia (peanut [Arachis hypogea] allergen powder-dnfp), was additionally discussed in the article.
