Studies from the current issue of The American Journal of Managed Care have been cited frequently this week.
New research from the CVS Health Research Institute was one of the most-cited articles this week. The study found that interventions to keep patients with common chronic conditions on their medication are very cost effective, especially if those interventions target patients who take 3 or more medications. Payers can save between $38 million and $63 million per 100,000 members by focusing on these patient populations. Multiple outlets cited the study, including The Pharmacist, the official publication of the American Pharmacist Association.
In addition, the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota discussed an article by CDC authors, who found that more than three-fourths of adults diagnosed as having bronchitis receive an antibiotic, even though antibiotics are not indicated for this condition.
