An article by The Heartland Institute cited a study published in the February 2015 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) titled “Leveraging Remote Behavioral Health Interventions to Improve Medical Outcomes and Reduce Costs.” In the study, researchers found that successful patient engagement in a nationally available, remotely delivered behavioral health intervention can significantly improve medical outcomes and lower healthcare costs.
Parade referenced an article published on AJMC.com, “COVID-19 Questions HIV-Positive Individuals Want Answered.” The article mentioned that as the environment surrounding the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic seems to change by the minute, the full extent to which immunocompromised HIV-positive individuals can be affected if they contract COVID-19 is not known. As guidance issued by the CDC notes, extensive information on the risk of patients with low CD4 counts (below 200 cells/mm3 indicates AIDS) remains unknown, but similar to other patients with comorbid conditions or respiratory infections, these populations are at greater overall risk of getting very sick.
A piece by Diabetes In Control referenced an article posted on AJMC.com, “Air Pollution Alters Gut Microbiome, Increasing Risks for Diabetes, Obesity, Study Says.” The article highlighted a study on how exposure to air pollutants alters the composition of gut microbiota, which then increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, and other chronic illnesses.
