The Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) 49th Annual Meeting and Cancer Center Business Summit will feature presentations and interactive workshops centered on the latest in technology, care delivery, and payment issues in oncology.
Trends in technology, policy, and business strategy will take center stage during the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) 49th Annual Meeting and Cancer Center Business Summit, which runs from March 8-10 in Washington, D.C.
The 3-day meeting will feature a pair of keynote addresses, with the first focusing on the potential of CRISPR genome editing for patients with cancer. On Thursday, keynote speaker Kevin Davies, PhD, executive editor of The CRISPR Journal and GEN Biotechnology and author of Editing Humanity: The CRISPR Revolution and the New Era of Genome Editing will discuss the origins of CRISPR and breakthroughs that hold promise for the future of cancer treatment.
Thursday’s agenda continues with an update on the Cancer Moonshot initiative from Danielle M. Carnival, PhD, the White House Cancer Moonshot Coordinator, and a session focusing on the role of primary care and oncology in multi-cancer early detection.
Andre Harvin, PharmD, MS, MBA, executive director of pharmacy in oncology services at Cone Health Cancer Center, will speak to the importance of a strong pharmacy team and strategies to optimize operations, costs, and patient outcomes in Friday’s keynote address.
Additional sessions and will cover a range of topics impacting oncology practices nationwide, including emergent payment issues and regulatory considerations post public health emergency. A presentation led by members of the ACCC Alternative Payment Coalition will focus on value-based care in oncology, discussing strategies for the development of alternative payment methods with private payers and evaluate the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ upcoming Enhancing Oncology Model.
In addition to presentations, the meeting agenda includes a host of workshop options during which attendees can take deep dives into a variety of topics surrounding care delivery models, technology-based solutions, and strategies for efficiency from a business perspective. Incoming ACCC president Olalekan Ajayi, PharmD, MBA, highlighted this aspect of the meeting in an interview with The American Journal of Managed Care®.
“What excites me most is the structure through which we're embracing this meeting this year,” Ajayi said. “We're going to be doing a lot of workshops, and that really helps promote engagement from people. You can come here, and there's a better avenue and structure for networking. I'm really looking forward to the workshops that we're going to be doing with our attendees this year.”
